"Rolls Royce emblem"
Our prolific Gold member Edith Harris has once again provided us with a visual delight. This rendering of the Rolls Royce emblem (known as "The Spirit of Ecstasy") is a truly delightful drawing. It is wonderfully studied, drawn with total understanding, executed with confidence, a broad palette... and is completely believable. Edith has made this complex study look simple to draw. Pierre Parisien said "Don't show me that what you are doing is difficult" and I belive Edith would have pleased him greatly. Visit Edith's gallery for a lot more of her many and varied works - and maybe treat yourself to a print. A very worthy Editor's Choice for this month. MIKE Bev Lewis wins "Founders Award"
With a whoop of delight, Bev told us 'Bad Hair Day' won the 'Founders Award for Best UK Entry' in the Coloured Pencil Society's 2008 annual exhibition. Bev says...
To say I'm chuffed would be an understatement. I so nearly didn't submit it as I had thought that pet portraits had been overlooked in the past, but I am so happy I did.
So are we.... take a look at this month's Editors Choice!Gayle Mason elected to SOFA
The selection committee for the Society of Feline Artists has approved our Gold member Gayle Mason for full membership. And even more news... Gayle has also been approached by the Snow Leopard Trust to work with them. Congratulations, Gayle!

Our Gold member John Duffy has recently written and published a book illustrating the bridges across the River Slaney in Ireland. John follows the river from its source at Lugnaquillia, in County Wicklow, to the estuary in County Wexford, illustrating each bridge in detailed graphite pencil drawings.
While the book concentrates on the many bridges, it is full of interesting anecdotes and stories; and it helpfully gives the true meanings behind the Anglicised original place names. The final chapters give general information on such diverse subjects as Rod Fishing and The River Gods of Edward Smyth. It's a most interesting read and generously illustrated by John's accurate pencil drawings.ISBN: 978-0-9554184-0-2 John Duffy's gallery |
