Scottish artist Laura Hardie, who specialises in pet portraiture and coloured pencils, told us...
I studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee but any hopes of continuing a career in art were put on hold while I took time out to raise my two children.
During this time I worked part-time as a personnel administrator but still found the time to paint and draw for pleasure as well as family and friends. It was through their encouragement, and the fact that the children were older, that I felt the time was right to pursue a career in art. I am now a full-time animal/pet portrait artist accepting commissions worldwide.
I love drawing animals and consider myself lucky to be doing something I get great enjoyment from. Each animal has his or her own unique character and personality and it is this that I look for and aim to capture in my work.
I recently took over the role of tutor for the Distance Learning Coloured Pencil Certificate Course run by the London Art College and am thoroughly enjoying the experience.
